In response to Verisign's recent grab-ass leechery (I love it when someone pisses me off enough to invent new words, yes it's close to lechery but c00ler) I have a solution. It's simple: Monitoring should be put into place and Verisign should be required to pay their own annual rate for ANY mistyped domain they return a web page for. For example, if I type http://verisignaredicks.com into my browser, Verisign should then be required to pay for verisignaredicks.com for the entire year, renewed again after the year if I do it again. The resulting profit should be put either into trust for the IETF, ICANN, and other Internet standards bodies or should be spread across all the customers' accounts at Verisign as a credit so we all benefit. It's only fair if they're going to "host" and use nonexistent domains for their own profit.
What a bunch of hypocritical cheeseballs. |

I wondered why Galileo was sentenced to the fate it's going to dive into like a lot of people. I can't believe I forgot about Europa... and 2010 is one of my favorite movies of all time. =)

So , does it all actually work out at some point?
I've been riding the wave of half-truths and lies so long I've become lost in the question. Living with such a furious lack has been more numbing than any doldrum cold routine. I'm tired of being lied to and told that thinking or doing it any other way is a lie. I see them everywhere, just like me, sitting and watching and wondering how they ended up here. How was it so easy to be sucked into the illusion? The trap was laid with gold and promises. When sprung it was too late. In the end there was a lot to be gained, a spoiled wealth. I have so much but nothing worth anything, nothing that's actually important.
So what can we start telling people? I feel like I need to warn them.
"It's all a big lie and you're not going to find any real happiness."
That would sound great.
"You can spend all day, every day of your waking life busting your ass and putting everything you have into making it work but in the end you get a big shit sandwich and the check for it too."
Is there a 401K that's going to lose half the money I put into it? Sign me up. Oh, and a healthy dose of promotion through title only would be a great side dish. I wouldn't want a piece of the pie, just give me a T-Shirt that says "I like pie."
Important lessons I've learned:
1) The only foolish student is the pupil of a single teacher.
2) You're only as good as what you did yesterday but yesterday doesn't matter when it's not convenient for those who should remember.
3) Planning on tomorrow is not as important as living the day right in front of you. (see #4)
4) Nobody owns The Now. (see #3)
4) Nothing worth anything more than money costs money.
5) Work is it's own reward.
6) Don't fuck up and hate what you do.
7) Money comes and goes.
8) Time comes and goes.
9) Only one is valuable. (see #8 and #7)
10) Do you hate waking up in the morning? (If "Yes" see #1 and do NOT collect $200)

Nature is an amalgam of reflections of itself in varying states.
On the blinky blinky side it's also full of stars. (And a tree here and there, figuratively speaking.) |

Minor pokes and prods have produced the ability to anonymously post comments here. The catch is that they won't appear unless approved. Sorry, but that's the way it's going to be - this is my web log, not yours. ;)
Also, if you click the poster name it's now a link to a contact form instead of a broken mailto link. Yes, I really will get messages now from said link... no more bit-bucket. I meant to fix that ages ago but completely forgot. |

From the "how many lumps" department...
Check this NY Times article out.
String Theory has been a long-time area of "hobby" interest for me so I was grabbed by the article to begin with. However I was bursting at my seams to see popular acceptance of the 4-dimensional Standard Model. I've considered our Universe to be 4 dimensions since I started wondering about such things and was lucky enough to have an AP Biology professor (okay not his field but still...) who turned me onto the idea in Freshman year of High School. His exact words elude me but it was something to the effect of "if I have an object that's 30 feet by 30 feet by 30 feet but it doesn't exist for any time does it actually exist?"
Simplistic... yes, I agree but logically sound - and it opened a lot of doors for me.
Despite the fact that I was really happy to see acknowledgement of my pet belief in 4D the far more interesting aspect of the article is the "mountain range" discussion of energy and life. |
